Rocketspark

SEO strategy drives 229% organic click growth for Rocketspark

Rocketspark is a New Zealand website builder for small businesses that want a good-looking site without hiring an agency. Its sweet spot is graphic designers, professional services, trades and boutique eCommerce.

It competes with Squarespace, Wix, WordPress and GoDaddy, so organic search has to pull its weight. Atlas Digital's organic team started working with Rocketspark in May 2025, with one page in its sights: domain names.

The challenge

Paid search was doing its job. Organic search wasn't, and the domain names page, a core part of Rocketspark's offer, was where it showed most.

  • Roughly two-thirds of trackable organic clicks in New Zealand came from people already typing "Rocketspark". New customers weren't finding it.
  • The domain names page relied on paid media for visitors rather than earning them in search.
  • When the page did appear in results, click-through rates sat well below expectations.

What we did

We started with research into what people were actually searching for, then put the fundamentals to work on the page that needed them most.

  • Keyword research to map real demand from Rocketspark's customers, not assumptions about them
  • Landing page optimisation of the domains section, built around what that research showed
  • A content roadmap to support the domains page and build topical authority around it
  • A technical audit to fix the foundations, so the new content had something solid to stand on

The research surfaced what wins Kiwi buyers over Wix and Squarespace: NZ-based hosting, support in NZ business hours and NZD billing. Owners of trades, service and boutique accommodation businesses wanted something stable and easy to run, so the content led with simplicity over endless design options.

Nothing flashy. Just the fundamentals, done properly, aimed at the page that needed the most attention.

Good SEO partners are hard to find. Atlas have great people and a proper process. They do what they say they'll do, explain it in plain English and the results keep coming."

The results

Comparing the same three months year on year, the domain names page now earns its own traffic.

  • Organic clicks to the domain names page up 229%
  • Impressions up 34%
  • Click-through rate up 147%
  • Average ranking position improved by 19%

Across all domain names pages combined, clicks were up 207%, impressions up 40% and click-through rate up 116%.

The most telling number is branded search. Impressions for branded domain queries rose 689%. More people now search for Rocketspark by name when they want a domain. That's brand demand built through organic search, not bought.

Non-branded queries, the ones that bring in people who've never heard of Rocketspark, were up 191% in clicks and 16% in impressions.

Why it worked

Domains are a convenience sale. Small businesses would rather buy domain, hosting and email in one place than juggle a separate provider. Ranking the domain names page puts Rocketspark in front of people shopping for a domain and gives it a natural way to sell them the website builder too, and a bundled customer tends to stay.

The SEO work ran alongside product and pricing changes on the page and a scaled-up paid campaign. With organic and paid working together, the page went from relying on ad spend to earning its own traffic, and Rocketspark holds its ground against some of the biggest website builders in the world.
